vonHalenbachs proposed sounds. First try.

Postby SvHalenbach » Sat Sep 08, 2007 6:12 pm

Hi there!

I have made today a woosh sound for the sword. Here it is:
http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... Woosh2.ogg

It seems not finished, because it sounds not very fresh and alive, but i think i can tweak it, to make it better.
Here is my version of seash and unseash.
http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... nseash.ogg
http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... /Seash.ogg

http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... oplet3.ogg
http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... oplet5.ogg

http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... btain3.ogg
http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... 9/Ohno.ogg

All sounds are recorded by me and mixed together with audacity.

I like to hear your comments and critique.

Sweet! Thank you for working these - allacrost desperately needs SFX.

My review of these:
- The woosh sound needs some processing, but I think you've got good source material there.

- The sheathe and unsheathe SFX need a lot more ... "body" to them. I think you could actually combine the two, nicely, to make a good "sheathe" sound, and would then need to make only an "unsheathe" sound from scratch.

The basic problem right now is that, inasmuch as they might sound technically real, the "feel" of them suggests kitchen knives.

- The droplets are excellent! Please make a few more - these would sound great in our cave. :approve:

- Obtain3 sounds too musical ... I guess too much like plucking at an instrument, and too little like the usual "alert sound".

- Ohno, on the other hand, sounds great. This could be a great interface sound. :approve:

Thank you for your feedback! I need feedback, because when someone makes something new, he is biased. Especially by sounds, which get processed in our brain. I need your ears and brain to get to know if it sounds real.

You would be surprised to know how these sounds were made. They have nothing to do with real knifes. The droplets are real water drops recorded and digitally processed. The obtain and ohno are me playing on a jew's harp. The woosh sound is scratching of finger nails on the backside of an artists canvas for oil painting. The sheathe sound is a brass bell, which get scratched on the back of the canvas.

Here is the new sheathe sound: http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... heathe.ogg
http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... oplet1.ogg
http://allacrost.sourceforge.net/wiki/i ... oplet2.ogg

A new version of the unsheathe sound:

Hear, if it is now more realistic or if it needs more tweaking.
