Artwork needed for demo 1.0.0

We need to figure out exactly what art we are going to need for the next demo, list it, and make that information known so that others will (hopefully) help us create it. What we need largely depends on the details in Brian's story for this demo. So lets get a list started based on what we know:


Map Tilesets
- Harrvah (desert town)
- Desert environment

Map Sprites
- Kyle
- Knights
- Karlates (junior knights)
- Knight Captain
- Various desert-dwelling enemies?

Map Objects (non-tile, non-sprite map artwork)
- ???

Battle Backgrounds
- Harrvah town???
- Desert???

Battle Sprites
- Which characters? Kyle? Knight Captain? Knights???
- Various desert-dwelling enemies?

Battle Action Animations
- Various sword based attack, defense skills
- Potion usage animations
- General attack/defense animations for enemies

Face Portraits
- Kyle
- Knight Captain
- General-purpose silhouttes (for NPCs)

Body Portraits
- Kyle?

Inventory Icons
- Maybe armguards/gauntlets for Claudius instead of shields?
- Addition icon for greaves

Skill Icons
- A small number of sword attack icons
- Possibly a defense or support type icon

Misc
- ???

Safir and I need to do some collaborative work on creating these. We need to come up with a larger group of "harrvah soldier/knight" NPCs - I'm thinking some 4-5 different kinds, total. I should clean up that one which ranger M provided, give it a different haircut, and make it fit better with claudius et al; it could serve as a sprite for kyle.

:disapprove: This is going to look like crap any way we slice it. I suggest using a different dialogue that doesn't have a space for a portrait, or possibly using that zoomed-in sprite thing I suggested (though I'd prefer the former. But don't do the silhouette; it's gonna look like shit.

I would only blow time on this if we're going to use him as a main character, later on -which is something that might work well. For the demo, we can easily have NPCs that follow the character around, but aren't part of the party.

:approve: I think it's a very good idea to do this switch. We'll save shields for some other character, who will actually look like he carries one.

I need you/others to come up with a list of skills. I'd strongly suggest working from the stuff Maeglin was brainstorming in this thread; it really struck me with how original it was, compared to most RPGs:
