Sorry about not being around for awhile; I'm working on a soundtrack for another indie RPG and working on various design aspects of a new game I'll be working on with a friend, as well as getting tangled up in playing through Phantasy Star IV and Diver Down again... :heh: Sorry about that.

Anyhow, here's some new progress:

This one isn't transparent because it's a WIP, and it's a bit of a pain to make things transparent since my program can't do it by itself (I have to go into Photoshop to do it).

It's not darker like yours yet, since I can't do that so easily-- maybe you could darken the spires up when I have a final version with all the notches and details done. Anyway, I think I'm slowly picking the technique up, at any rate-- let me know if there's anything I'm doing wrong or something that could be improved.

I did a quick edit to it; I stopped and took a screencap of progress up to this point in order to illustrate a little turn of technique.

If you look at the vertical "ribs" you added; you'll often have them as long single-pixel strips, with a much darker tone on the pixel to the immediate left - what I tend to do is to have pixels to the immediate left that are darker than the "ridge" pixel, but are only a few tones darker, maybe even just one tone (one step down in the pallette) darker.

Also, on the longer runs of these (and often on the short ones too), I try to bend them away from being purely vertical, just to make things look a bit more organic.



I'm going to finish this one, and commit the following two to SVN; I'm gonna get these into the 0.2.0 demo's cave map - I leave the other rock spire for you to keep working on.
