Notice about site hot-linking

Post by Roots » Mon Aug 23, 2004 10:56 am

(hot-linking is when you create a direct link to an image, audio, or video file from one site on another site, or on a forum. It is generally frowned upon because you are essentially stealing the bandwidth from that site)

This is important for both the staff and the public to know. I have disabled hot-linking to this site. You will not be able to create links to our images or audio files directly on another site/forum. However, you CAN link to the webpages and direct people there, where they can view images or download audio files themselves. In fact, we encourage everyone to spread the word about our project. Also note that you CAN hotlink to site images from the Allacrost forums (since the forums are on the same host as our website).

This was done because bandwidth thieves are evil. Although we currently aren't even close to consuming our maximum allowed bandwidth, it is better to do this now then later so people don't get in the habit of hot-linking our site. Thanks everyone! :approve:

He's a bot? But he joined the forums like 3 months ago and hasn't posted until today...? That doesn't sound like typical bot behavior to me. :uhoh:

Well, he might not be a bot, but it is spam - he's posted the same thing in both wesnoth's forums, and The Mana World's forums.   :eyebrow:
