Characters not attacking

Post by tgramsus » Tue Aug 24, 2010 6:04 pm

Hi,

Played the latest demo, but for some reason, my characters are not attacking the enemies. I select the attack command and then the target, but the command doesn't get executed by the characters.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Platform is Windows 7.

Hi tgramsus, welcome to the forum and thanks for trying out Allacrost. I haven't been able to test on Windows 7 as I don't have it, but I'll take another look at the Windows version tonight and see if I can spot any problems. I'll get back to you as soon as I get more information.

I'm on Vista and I've noticed this problem as well.

I had the same problem on my Mac until I upgraded to Luabind 0.9 ;)

Yeah, this looks like a Windows-specific Luabind issue. It should be fixed by the end of the week.

Sounds good. Looking forward to seeing what happens after the first boss battle.

Other things I noticed:
- During battles, when selecting an ally to use an item on, if you keep switching between the characters, the current character's stats start to scroll downward until they are completely out of the screen.

- When starting a new game, the game time shown in the menu screen is not the time of the current play through, but the time that the application has been running.

Hey tgramsus, thanks for your patience. I have developed what I believe is a working fix for this; I'll put up a file tonight with the changes so you can test it out.

Hi Rujasu,

The player characters are attacking successfully. Unfortunately, the application closes itself as soon the finishing attack is struck on the last enemy. It doesn't give any error, the game just closes itself.

Thanks for your effort in trying to get this fixed.

Okay, this wasn't happening for me but I'll see if I can reproduce it, and do some investigation to see if there are any known issues with Vista/7 that we haven't accounted for.

Thanks for the feedback.

Well, I've gotten this too, so it's not a Vista/7 problem. It's been a tough one though, and I haven't been able to track down the exact problem yet. Still working at it though.

Try this:

http://www.allacrost.org/staff/user/ruj ... .2-rc2.zip

There is an "allacrost-editor.exe" there, but it doesn't work. Running Allacrost should be fine though, and the bug should be fixed. Please let me know how it works for you. Thanks!

Thanks Brian. I'll give it a thorough test run on my laptop, then if all goes well I'll make a front page release by the end of the week.

Out of curiosity, what was the cause of this problem?

IIRC, I shipped the Windows release with the wrong version of LuaBind.

I believe I actually made a modification in SVN so we're now just including LuaBind in our source tree and compiling it statically. This made things a bit easier since LuaBind is a tough library to work with.

I see. Yeah I remember having trouble when I had the wrong Luabind library installed. The library can be a real pain, but the benefits we get from using it are worth it.
